Watch You're Next Movie Full Streaming For Free

Combining the dysfunctional family reunion and the home invasion thriller, “You’re Next” tries, somewhat valiantly, to add new twists to the usual bloody horror-flick shenanigans. But aside from a few fresh chords, it’s same-old, same-old.

At an isolated country estate, a wealthy couple are hosting their four grown children plus significant others to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. Of course, they don’t know the couple who lives down the road was just slaughtered by a team of creeps.

As the guests arrive, it becomes clear that no one in this brood gets along. Crispian (AJ Bowen), a teacher, brings his new Aussie girlfriend Erin (sparky Sharni Vinson). She’s an outsider, but with brothers like moody Felix (Nicholas Tucci) and obnoxious Drake (Joe Swanberg, who also directed this week’s four-star flick “Drinking Buddies”), who’d want to be an insider? Even whiny sister Aimee (Amy Seimetz) is annoying. Then arrows start coming through the windows, and Aimee’s boyfriend gets one in the forehead.

From then on, the movie is basically Agatha Christie’s “And Then there Were None,” with assailants writing “You’re next” on the walls in blood and wearing silly-looking animal masks as they skulk outside the house. Turns out Erin was raised in a survivalist camp in the Outback, so when the heavy oak doors are breached, this beauty’s got the backbone and brains to turn the tables.

Vinson is certainly a refreshing heroine, but director Adam Wingard doesn’t give her enough to do. Instead of luxuriating in her female Rambo-ness, we get lots of sibling squabbling — amusing for a while, but not a long while.

There’s a secret to who the fiends with the crossbows are, but among the clan itself, Swanberg stands out, and some unsurprising twists give others a chance to do more. Despite that, the movie is stuck on one level. Horror fans may walk out of “You’re Next” asking “That’s It?”
