The first step to be a Sunni Muslim is to bear witness that there is no god but God, the creator of everything & that He is the only lord of the whole world. He has not begotten and has not been begotten, and nothing looks like Him. And to bear witness that He has not taken a consort, nor a son, child or children. And then to bear witness that Jesus the Christ the son of Mary is a great human prophet & messenger of God & that he is not a god or a son of God. And then to bear witness that Mary, the mother of Jesus, is a human righteous pious women but she is not a god, a wife or a consort of God. And, to bear witness that the holy spirit is a creature, not a god. And, to bear witness that prophet Muhammad is a great human messenger of God & the last prophet. "Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but (he is) the Messenger of Allah, and the Last of the Prophets". The Holy Quran 33/40
