Former Ahrar Sham soldier said that the group is split into 2:

1. Those which fight the Islamic State, which is the main objective of the leadership. 

- They receive special support (from Arab tawāghīt) & advanced weaponry etc...

2. They rebelled against commands & refused to fight the Islamic State.

- They mainly fight Assad & refused to fight the Islamic State causing the leadership to cut their salaries, causing many soldiers to leave the group. 

- If it wasn't for Qatar supporting Ahrar Sham who's number was about 3000 after this rebellion, they would've collapsed as a group.

The reason Qatar supported Ahrar Sham financially (+ other ways) at this time was to make sure no bayah would be given to the Islamic State.
